Went to dump today at td bank . Half way through this grizzly bear of a women wodles her way over to me saying this machine isn't for coin collectors. Instead of getting into a argument over what the machine is or isn't used for I said I am not a collector.
She then decided to interigate me as to why I had so much coin. When I said I get paid in coin she continued her interrogation .
I said nicely I'll see you next week. Got her name and filed a complaint with corporate.
The level of discrimination directed our way on a continuous basis is ridiculous. Shouldnt matter if I'm coming in with a dollar in coin a thousand. I don't she would approuch an attractive young lady depositing a bunch of one's and ask if she was a stripper.
We deserve the same respect.

But they do ask! Have you never withdrew a large amount of cash or cashed a large check?

I've done it twice in my life and both times the bank demanded to know what I was going to do with the money. The first time I was an easily intimidated 17 year old and truthfully told them I was going to buy a car. The last time I was in my 30's and politely replied that it was none of their business. I was sent to speak with the branch manager and she almost apologetically said she was required to ask what I was going to do with the money before she could give it to me. I asked her what happens if I refuse to answer, and she replied that I would not be allowed to withdraw my own money. Assuming that it would take days or even weeks to resolve the issue, which I didn't have, I gave in and told her I was going to the casino, but would probably spend most of it on booze and prostitutes (which was actually 1/3 truthful). She laughed and went and got the cash, so I assume gambling, drinking, and fraternizing with hookers are on the "accepted activity" list.

some people take all there savings out give it to relatives and kill themselves.

When a bank asked me and I refused to answer, they told me it was so they could help their customers recognize/avoid fraud and/or coercion. I said thanks for the concern but I am not interested in discussing what I intend to do with the cash. They made a number of phone calls, asked me to sign a form (I refused without even looking at it), and finally counted out the cash.

This was obviously somebody who wanted to search your dumps - not knowing that they'd already been searched.

If they were counting then in the back, why wouldn't you get immediate credit? Were they gonna wait a couple days before they counted them? Weird. You should have said, " a lot of them are silver, but the counter still counts them as halves, so don't worry about the counter shorting me."

Fortunately, I have an excellent relationship with one of the TD branches in my area and dump there regularly and in large amounts. Another branch, also in my area are complete jerks if I want to dump any sizable amount of any coin and will not allow dumping of large amounts of halves at all. Their bag count is set at $100.
All managers are worried about the cost of the bags used in the machines and I gather the managers are hammered about that cost. At one point when I had no other recourse but to use TD exclusively for my dumping, I went to the manager of the first branch I mentioned and worked out a deal where I set up an account that stated I must keep $1000 in it by the end of the month or there was a $25 fee on the account. It worked well as the bank got something for the bags that were used and I got to keep dumping for a relatively small fee considering I was getting rid of thousands of dollars worth of halves per month. I don't have to have that account any longer(just a regular checking) as I now have several places to dump coin for no charge, but that TD still lets me dump large amounts at their branch as we have a good working relationship. Also they reset their machine to accept $300 in halves before saying the bag was full. That was a big help. At one point they had it at $500 per bag when I was really using them a lot. They have been good to me and I suggest that some of you may be interested in talking with a manager concerning any special accounts that may be good for you and the bank to ease the strain of bag cost.

I go to TD to buy my coin then dump at a local bank . the local bank hired some TD employee's so they now know my scheme . However im souss chef at a restaurant where the big wigs at the local bank eat at and the owner is a trustee . So the big wigs say I can dump as much coin as I want at this local bank , however the tellers try to intimidate me into not using their branch anymore because my $200 a week is to much for the coin sorter I guess ? I try to only dump once a week at all 4 of the branches Which is to much for them to change the bag on the machine !! One girl who was really getting under my skin for a while asked "why do you do this it costs the bank money every time you do this you know ?" I said loud enough so everyone could hear me "im just taking back the silver you and the rest of the machine has stripped from my family for generations" !!! She had no idea what to say which that was 2 yrs ago , and she still hasn't talked to me LOL!

I decided to stop at a different branch of a bank that has a coin counter to dump my halves yesterday. When I get there the security guard opens the door for me and I proceed to the coin counter that Ive used a few times in the past - but the last time probably being over a year ago. I set my two bags of halves on a small table next to the coin counter (one bag is a thick clear plastic bag) and get ready to start using the machine and the security guard is practically sticking his face in that clear bag to examine my coins. Then he tells me the machine doest except dollar coins or half dollar coins and points to a sign above the machine that says the same thing. The sign either said the machine didn't except them or they just weren't allowed - I forget now. Then I hear a voice in the background saying half dollars damage the machine - maybe the manager Idk. I just sighed, grabbed my coins and turned around and walked out.

It was the exact same type of coin counter that the three other branches of this same bank in the area have that I regularly use as my dump banks. I just decided to stop by this bank yesterday to try and spread out my dumps a little more. So after even calling the bank before driving over there to make sure their coin counter was working properly I drove a little out of my way to use the coin counter at this bank. I never even thought the bank would have a no half dollar policy for the machine. I sure hope this type of coin counter policy this isn't something that my other dump banks start doing also.

I was thinking about it later and in theory of course half dollars or any coin denomination add some wear to the machine every time the machine is used. By why the heck even have the machines if they don't let customers use them? Maybe its because some heavy volume hunters have used the machine in the past or its just because they want to limit the use of the machines as much as possible because that makes it easier for the bank. But what type of customer service policy is that? I think the customers that really damage and add significant wear to the machines are the customers that bring in their $43.68 (or whatever amount) that's filled with paperclips, trash & debris and damaged coins and use the machines as combination coin counters and garbage disposals. On occasion I've even watched these kinds of people do this as Im waiting my turn to use the machine only to have to turn around and walk out because thanks to them the machine is out of service and no longer in use. Its those types of customers that should be profiled and discriminated against - not customers like me. My coins are always clean with no trash or debris and damage free - I make sure to pull out any coins with the slightest damage and I use those in circulation.

I guess maybe its finally time for me to start looking into finding a bank that will let me dump in bags over the counter esp if I wanna start increasing my volume.

So when I spoke with coporate last week they told me someone would get back to me in two days. No one has returned my calls about the issue so I called back again yesterday. The women I spoke with originally wasn't in but another supervisor assured me someone would be contacting me in this matter shortly.
Think it's just corporate jerking me around.
I've strongly considered going to an attorney about my options if corporate does nothing. This same manager has discriminated against me many times and I'm getting sick of getting harassed.

re - not allowing half dollars in the machines; thats acutally a pretty effective way to block crh's. Must have had too many people abusing the machine, good idea (for the bank, not crh's).
