Casino finds anyone ?

Those of you CHR's that go to local casino's that still have REAL coin payout slots (instead of voucher credits), ever come across any AG coins when you cash out? Reply if it has happened to you.

Just don't consider the machines. At the tables, BJ in particular, the dealers use halves as separators for blocks of chips (cheques for you purists). On occasion, you can spy the tell-tale rim. Keep a couple of halves of your own to swap out with the dealer when their is a break in play.

When I was in Vegas last year - OLD Vegas, for my honeymoon - I did just this. Spent hours (and very black fingers) but managed to find 2 war nickels. Plus I brought back some new rolls of 2013 D nickels (and quarters) for myself and friends. Shame bc my luggage was SO much more heavy than it had to be.

I believe that modern slot machines used (before they mostly went coinless) a comparator much like a Ryedale. They would not accept silver coins. So even though they would spit out any silver that had been dumped into their till as payment, that coin would not have been accepted by the machine if someone attempted to put it back in. So many just likely went into someone's pocket whether they knew of silver coins or not. Not 100% sure on that, but thats what I have been told.

At one casino I used to frequent often back in the 1990's and early 2000's, there was one older gentleman that was almost always at the poker tables CRHing halves as he played. He'd buy $300, search them, cash 'em in and do it all over again - all night long. I watched him do this for years and years until the casino went coinless. I personally saw him search tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. During all that time, I saw him pull 1 40%er. That particular casino used halves on their poker tables for rake purposes. I no doubt played MANY thousands of hands at that casino, and saw many many rolls of halves opened. During all that time, I saw only 1 40%er hit the table.

Back in about 2003 I went to a casino in Louisiana called Coushatta. As I walked around scoping out the action I noticed this guy at a half dollar machine with a huge pile of halves in the tray. Curious, I stood back and watched for a bit. He would put in a twenty dollar bill and immediately cashed out into his hands. If he saw silver, he would throw it in a change cup he had on the side, which by the way was just about full!

I struck up a conversation with him and he said he did this for a living and showed me what was in his cup......40%, 90%, Franklins, Walkers and believe it or not a worn Barber half!!! Needless to say, I sat down at the machine next to him and started doing the same thing!


Oh, those were the good old days!

Back in the late 70's early 80's I used to go to Lake Tahoe often and mostly played black jack $5 table. A black jack payed 1 1/2 of bet. You always got a half dollar back on the bet. I saved all the half dollars I got this way. I collected many 100's of silver halves this way.

A shade off topic but I found my 2nd Casino worn proof half this week. I've still never found a silver casino coin in circulation.

One item that may be helpful for some, maybe casino's have coin counters and will change out coin with no fees.

I've actually had decent luck. I've been to one casino that still had 50 cent coin operated machines. It was 2012 or 2013. I can't remember exactly how many I found but I believe they were all 40% (3 or 4 maybe). I found them in the machines when I cashed out. I figured out later in my stay that you could buy halves by the roll.

I'm going back next month. I plan to spend a lot of my time CRHing, especially if the video poker isn't paying.

Hey, Hopin for advice, my girl just got a job as vault and cashier supervisor at a big casino, what can I expect and how is the best way to capitalize on the silver any experience here

You can see if they still have halves in the vault. Ask her to deliver bags of halves to you and search them and return them to a different pile.
