In and around Kingman area. Some (maybe) dumb questions:

Went into Wells Fargo to order a box 5 days ago. Merchant teller took my info
(name & number) and stated he would give it to the person handling Halves
ordering, and she would call me. No calls from Wells Fargo yet. How long should
I wait before I call them (what is the protocol)?

The Merchant teller asked me if I was "silver mining". Is this unusual? I
shrugged-it-off and stated that I would be doing several things.

When (if) the box order arrives, what packaging should I look for?- is it taped?
sealed? strapped? glued? I just need to know if someone else has "examined'
the contents before I do. If the box has been opened, should I refuse the box?

Any advice on dealing with reordering after refusing an opened box? (I like the
soft-shoe approach best.) What wording do you use to turn this negative into a
positive?

Thanks.

I would call - if you have an account - no big deal.
It should be taped shut.
If it's been opened, peek inside and see if the rolls were also opened.
If they have, tell them you'd like to reorder -sealed. Or- go to another branch and order.
Silver hunting? - Say - of course! then ask if they have any loose or hand rolled you can have.
Some tellers will save you halves if you ask them.

Bob,

I would call and speak to the service manager. More than likely she is the one ordering the coin. Just let them know that you requested halves about 5 days ago and was wondering if they were in? Go from there. gave the merchant teller my info, will get a call, etc.. That should be enough to either get the halves in with the next order (possibly twice a week) or they are already there.

As far as answering questions just let them know you are a collector.

As far as opened boxes I have gotten a few boxes that were not sealed (no tape) and they were fine. If the box has tape that has been broken I would take the box and ask for sealed boxes next time.

It is good to see that there are still small miners in Arizona.

Both TxTim and 65G have given you good advice. The only thing I have to say is most of the time the tellers don't ask if I am "silver mining". After I have ordered from the same bank a few times then I get a couple of questions and that's when I tell them that I collect coins and I'm trying to fill up my books. They usually know that if you are a coin collector then you are also looking for older coins(silver) as well as anything else that is unusual.

Good luck and I hope you get a good box.

I just got a call from the WF vault teller. She stated that they don't order boxes of half dollars... from the mint.
A pleasant enough conversation, but my BS detector was pegged far to the right. (Maybe I'm wrong.) What
does the esteemed assembly say about this. (Yeah, I'm looking at other banks right now... but I have a lot of
my money on deposit with WF, and would really like to use them.)

That's funny-
WF is my bank and I get nothing but 1st class service from them and they take my dumps with a smile.
You may have a problem with that particular person.
Maybe it's time to ask the manager a few questions and remind them of the business you do with them.
It may come down to letting them know that you'll have to switch banks if they don't indulge you.
It's amazing how many banks are begging for new accounts right now.
Open a free checking account with the competiton and tell them your intentions - they'll thank you for the business - that's how it should be!

I 2nd TXTim's comment.

One of my banks is WF, I use about 5 branches for dumping and always get a smile. One branch even offered to order boxes for me. I took one but have not taken them up on their offer of more. I don't want to get my own coins back. (their boxes & wrappers look exactly like I get from BofA.)

One of the tellers at that same branch says she has silver coins at home. I am now in the process of trying to buy them at 5.5X face value.

Finally got into my bank to speak with someone about ordering halves.
I asked that the Merchant Teller give me a statement in writing stating
that she would not order halves for me. Just like the old Hank Williams Jr
song... everybody seemed to get an "attitude adjustment"!!!!!!!!
My new order is supposed to be in next week.....

We'll see.
