Clad coins and Coinstar...

Do clad coins have to be cleaned in order to flow in a Coinstar machine?
I'm getting to the point I should start cashing them in, but they are
all about the same shade of yechh and in many cases it's almost impossible
to tell a dime from a penny from a nickel, other than size. I've got almost
enough to buy a small coil for my new XLT, and haven't ever bothered to
clean other than just a rinse in the sink before tossing into the can...

Will the machine reject them?

Or should I buy a tumbler first and give them a serious cleaning?

Thanks!

If they're not too corroded or diry, they'll probably go through but a quick tumble with soapy water and a rinse will help them. You may have to put some through a couple of times, so watch the reject bin. The other day I was walking by one and found $1.10 that someone left in the bin-had dried paint on them. Cleaned them and coffee canned them.

One good way to clean them if you don't have a tumbler is to put them in a can or jar or something, and put baking soda in. Enough to almost cover the coins then pour in some vinegar, but be careful it will fizz up like an alka seltzer. Leave them for a couple of days stirring occasionally. They come out pretty good.
