Not real special but I found a 1968s.
It was the only silver in the box. I'm happy with it. Definitely it has been circulated.

Thanks Maverick, one to cross off the list. Hopefully there will be a few more crossed off the list this year.

Newb Question:

How can you know it's a proof? I don't have a working camera/phone but as soon as I do, I'll post some pics. In a box of halves I found three "extra shiny" coins. Two of them I guess are proofs. They are super shiny and the bust is kind of flat looking. The other one is just super shiny.

1992 S Kennedy half-Clad Matte or flat looking bust
1981 S (I think) Kennedy half-Clad Matte or flat
1993 P Kennedy Half-Clad All shiny, buy seems more than just un-worn. ??

Thx

It will have an "s" mint mark. The 81 and 92 are proofs and the 93 is not. Here's a pic, all proofs

Thanks Zomotion. So proofs only come from S Mint? I can't see some of the marks too well. Turned 50. So far, refuse to get glasses. Won't be long though. The 81 and 92 look like the "two tone" ones in the photo.

By the way Steve, congrats on the find!

Thanks Greastart. I'm 57 and there is a magnifying glass in my car and one next to the couch. They say the eye sight is the first to go. Hmmmm Or is it the memory?

By the way Steve, congrats on the find!

Proofs that were made from 1964 and earlier have NO mintmark (they were minted in Philadelphia and just have the mirror finish that proofs show).

No proof coins were minted from 1965-1967.

Proof coins from 1968 to present have an 'S' mintmark (San Francisco).

***There were some business strike coins (cents and nickels) minted between 1968 - 1974 that have an 'S' mint mark that aren't proofs.***
