How do experienced CRH-ers tell if a half dollar is struck on a 40% silver clad planchet? Are they silver on the rim like the 1965-1970 half dollars? I have read that there are some Denver half dollars, in 1971 and 1977, which are unique in this way. A typical 1971 or 1977 half dollar weighs 11.34g, and the 40% silver clad planchet 1971 and 1977 halves weigh 11.50g; are you able to feel that difference in handling the individual coins?

Sound test would help me for sure. But to answer your question yes, the rim would be silver like any other 40%. Anyone who says they can feel a difference of .16 grams by handling something would be lying. Or take it to a reputable LCS.

Yep, that's it. Just so you know, these errors are insanely rare... The chances of actually finding one are extremely slim. You're probably more likely to find a solid roll of walking liberties in a MWR.
