I normally look at the Coinstar machine each week when I grocery shop. Normally I find nothing, but clad coins now and then. Today I checked when I arrived and found nothing, but when I left i saw a number of coins in the tray. I popped them in my hand and to my surprise there were 7 steel war pennies 1943 or 1943S. The 2015 cent is for reference only.

Cool. Maybe they are a slightly different weight than other pennies and so the machine rejected them.

looks like they are all in original condition, which to me is a huge plus. I hate when I see 'reconditioned' (freshly zinc plated) ones for sale at various places. very nice find

Any way you can find out when they're going to pick up the coinage from that machine? If so, perhaps you can offer to buy the bag from them. I just have to think that if it rejected all those wheats, what other goodies were deposited at that time. Maybe someone cashed in grandpa's coin collection dating all the way back to when he was a small boy.

Put a water jug next to it with a sign saying "put reject coins here".

yes silver dimes , quarters , halves and ike type dollars wil be rejected as well as WW2 era steel war cents and silver war nickles --- foreign coins will also be rejected --- often zinc cents get booted as well by the machine ... people often simply walk away -- abandoning change in the return slot --once left behind --its "abandoned" ... its not coinstars since they didn't pay for it and its no longer the persons that poured the change in since they left it behind basically they "abandoned it"--- as a good common sense move do wait until they are out of sight before collecting the "left behind" coins to prevent any "issues"...with the "prior owner"
