Halves

Ordered 2 boxes of halves a few weeks back and they came in today. Gone through the first box and have been mostly skunked. I found 3 halves that were post 2001 no value but a neat coin to have. Best of Box 2 was 1 1966 silver, and a roll that had 10 bicentennial halves. So either I miss counted or out of $1000 I was shorted by $.50. I am going to go with I miss counted somewhere and it really was all there :P. I am not sure if I am going to see about doing another box or if I want to slowly trade these coins in for lower denominations. Part of the problem with that is that I do not have any rolls for my halves so I can either order some or I can use them to trade in for rolls of other kinds.

Now get a cherrypicker's guide and you'll know the main varieties to look for!

That would be really neat to have but at the time I do not have enough time to go through and look for varieties.

I understand, Holt. With the amount of time I have I can really only look at the rims for potential silver. If a proof (at least a silver one) comes in you will see it from the rim even clearer than from general silver. At least I do with my not so good eyes. GL and HH...Brad

You have plenty of time. The time you used to break them down and count them by decades could be used to search for them. Probably will take less time!

Does it really not take that long to look for the variations? I thought it would have taken awhile because you have to look for tiny details.

I keep a loupe on my chair and know what to look for after years of repetition. You can start out looking for the major things and go to more detail later if you like.

Is that actually a good percentage. I thought it was rather bad so I was going to try and avoid the halves for a while and was going to switch to nickles. Do you have any idea what is best in my area?
