For discussion of all things bullion penny hoarding and sorting related.

I made an earlier thread that was more specific to the question of how to offload the zinkers but I think a more general thread for discussion of all things bullion penny related could be useful as well.

I have some experience in this line of ...work?... so happy to share any wisdom I may have to anyone interested in the topic. Unless you live too close to me, in which case GTFO my pennies you fiend. :D

I am using a formula that included dividend reinvestment. One problem I am seeing in your calculations is that while reinvested dividends MAY be taxable depending upon the investment vehicle and tax laws (since everything here is hypothetical), currently this investment is treated as a long term capital gain and at todays tax rates would be taxed at 0% for the 10%–15% income tax brackets; 15% for the 25%–35% brackets; and 20% for the 39.6% bracket. Also keep in mind that long term precious metal gains are taxed at the higher IRS "collectibles" rate of 10% for the lowest income bracket and up to 28% for the highest.

Yes, after a bit of research I see that legal tender is not in fact exempt.

Got data in from my last haul. 26.6% copper! this is very good, much better than my 18% the time before.

Looking bad so far on this next batch. Must have seen 20 zinks in a row fly by before a single copper was sent to the other bin. >< Well see what the count looks like when its all said and done.

On a side note, my ryedale is sooo awesome. Man I love this thing. Jamming at the moment because spring and paw need new application of lube but no fault of the manufacturer. Great product.

Not the case cog, I will be following your progress. I am mostly interested in the silver side of things right now, but see no reason I won't eventually set up a copper sorting side as well. The only downfall I had with pennies starting out is the time/return factor, however I have realized this should shift to much more favorable balance with a sorting machine. I personally don't want to invest the cash in a ryedale machine right now because it would take forever to see enough return to pay for it. But on the other hand, I have seen devices setup using slot machine parts that seem to work just as well if not better than the ryedale. And I fortunately have some background in the casino industry and would think it fairly easy for someone like me to put this together for about $120 or so. That would be a far more reasonable of an investment in my eyes, plus I could set it up to do other coins unlike the ryedale. So it will happen eventually I am sure, I just want to get a feel for other people's returns first so I will know the numbers involved, and your posts actually have helped a good deal in that area.
So by all means, keep up the good work bro.

Well as long as someone is interested ill keep reporting :D

I built a sorter out of a slot machine hopper and a comparitor before I had a ryedale. Actually I think that cost more than a ryedale not less when you consider that you will be able to resell your ryedale someday but never your make shift slot machine hopper setup. I expect ill be able to sell my ryedale for atleast within 50 dollars of what I paid for it because I bought it used, so I think of the price of the ryedale as 50 dollars. I would say there is an opportunity cost there to except interest rates are suppressed to about zero so its not like you could be earning interest on that money so the cost is just 50 dollars. But its DEFINITELY less upfront cost.

Also my slot machine hopper setup never ran nearly as fast as my ryedale but I think if you have access to a fabrication systems like a 3d printer or a lathe you could make a feed ramp that matched the speed of a ryedale. My crappy ghetto feed ramps were always the bottleneck in my operations.

Let me know if you want to buy my spare slot machine hopper (set up to accept pennies) and comparitor, I don't need them now that I have a ryedale, and the wife would be glad to see rid of them. Could offer a pretty good price and I have a pretty strong reputation here on the nets. This is me and this is my thread and I can prove it if you are interested https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=381041

When gold was confiscated before people willingly turned it in. I seriously doubt that would happen today.

Encountered something I couldn't believe today. A whole box of hand rolled zinkers! Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised but for some reason I am, I just cant believe there is another penny sorter in my city. He walks among us. In plain cloths. He could be anyone.

I guess no ones very interested in this topic :(

COG: trust me, if I could afford a rydale and had the room I too would be sorting with a machine; for now I just sort cents by hand; wheats, coppers(59-82), then zincs that go back to the bank. By all means keep reporting, I'll read & make replys. Til then keep sorting & stacking.

I personally hand sort 2 boxes per week, I find that's happy minimum when I order 1-2 boxes of halves as well. I usually pull 20-30% in my boxes from fed district 4 from cincinnati.
