On Friday, I went out for my usual rounds at the bank and picked up $20 in nickels along with $50 in halves. I didn't have a whole lot of cash to spend so I kept the amounts low. I began to look through the nickels. First roll-nothing. Second roll- I pick it up and look at the ends and what do I see staring back at me? LADY LIBERTY HERSELF!!!
IMG_0984.JPG
I was shocked, so I cracked into the roll and I ended up finding three more V nickels in that one roll!
I was curious to see if this was some kind of collection dump so I continued to open the rolls with high expectations; and I wasn't disappointed!
In the next 8 rolls, I found 2 more V nickels and one buffalo. Plus, I was able to pull out a 2009 as well. So after finding all of this, I rushed back to the bank and bought up $40 more in nickels. However, the rolls did not seem the same. I did pull out some old ones, but no more V's or buffs. However, I really can't complain because in that extra $40, I was able to find my first war nickel!
So that's 4 firsts for me and they came in this order- V nickel, Buffalo, 2009, and War Nickel. Not your typical order of events, but I'll take it!
I also picked out a few error coins. One 1988 that looks like it was struck off center, and a 1964 that had a strange texture on its right side. I have heard that this sort of thing can be caused by grease during the strike? Let me know guys! (Sorry for upside down pictures, I'm not sure why they're being flipped like that)

Nice scores! It's tough to our find one V nickel, yet you found 6. You just never know.

As for your 1964 it's nothing special. Just probably has a foreign substance on the rim. Struck through grease happens on the front or back of a coin and makes features of the coin weak or non existent.

The 1988 is a tiny bit off center but you won't get anything over 5 cents for it. The off center strikes that are worth money are ones that are like 50% off center strikes or more. The more off center the more valuable.

That is one very unusual STROKE OF V-LUCK. Never seen or heard of that happening before til now. For sure someone's collection dump from grampa's coffee can stash.

Haha I love that "Grandpa's coffee can stash" And here's what I think happened: It was definitely a dump of some sort. I went into the bank and picked up $20 in nickels. Then, when I came back to get more, I asked how many they had left. The teller told me they had $200 even. So that meant that I got the last $20 in the good box and the next $40 worth that I bought came from a different box. So, that's why the streak didn't continue after the initial $20. I did get that war nickel though.

And I haven't heard of anything like this either! It's tough to even find one v nickel- hell, it's tough to find a buffalo! I'm still in awe about this :D

Should have bought the rest of the $200 worth. The rest could be in the $160 you left back at the bank

As much as I wanted to do that, I had to abandon the idea after realizing that I was now broke :o
I'll dump my coins next week and then go back and buy the rest, I'm sure it'll all still be there!

Most likely the nickels will be gone by next week and in their place will be rolls of all 2015 nickels. You should be doing everything in your power to dump the coins you have and running to that bank to get the rest. Heck ask your brother to borrow all his clad 1950's quarters to turn in.

I would highly advise against selling clad 1950 quarters lol

Your 1988 is what is know as a mis-aligned die. If you look a the reverse it will probably be correctly centered. Very very common, no added value.
