Key and Semi-Key Date Finds in Rolls

Was curious as to what everyone's best key/semi-key date finds were out of coin rolls... I'm guessing the vast majority of the good date finds will come out of the nickel rolls/boxes, though I have heard of someone pulling a 1938-D Walker out of a box of Halves.

A very long time ago (mid-late 80s), I found both a 1950-D and 1939-D Jefferson Nickel (actually completed a whole set of Jefferesons while working at Taco Bell as a college student)

About 15 years ago, I found an XF 1970-S Small Date Lincoln

3 1/2 months ago, I began searching rolls of coins earnestly... to date my best key date finds have been a 1938-D and 1939-S (3) Jeffersons... Also have found some nice semi-keys: 1942-D (3), 1949-S (4), 1951-S(2), 1958-P

I'm out on the West coast, so finding the D and S coins is somewhat easier than it is back East. Also am curious as to whether anyone is finding 1950-P and 1955-P nickels these days...

I've found a 1910 S cent, and a 1931 D cent. I primarily searched nickels when I was really into it and have found a 1950 D, 1938 D, 1943 D, and not long ago found a 55' no mint mark. The giy that found the 38' walker came from cwr not a box. And to answer your question I find plenty of 50 P nicks but only one of the 50' D thus far. A coworker of mine when I worked at walmart and kept an eye out for me found a 31' S buffalo and gave it to me for nothing about 2 years ago.

This year, from a machine-wrapped box pennies, I pulled a 1931-S wheat in F-12 condition, which I consider to be my best find.
No key date dimes, quarters, or halves for me, unfortunately.

My best is a 1970 S half from a machine roll. Even though I've hit nickels pretty hard, I haven't found any of the keys or semi keys.

I guess being in Maine helps out with the Philly coins... the 50 and 55 Philly coins are just so hard to find out here on the West Coast. You owe that friend that found you that 31-S Buff!

I found the '23-S and '31-S Buffalo nickels the same day. Found 172 Buffalo's that day, plus 4 V nickels, '36 Canadian nickel and multiples of every Jefferson nickel except the '50-D and '39-D.

Also found multiples of '70-D, '70-S and the AG '76-S halves.

Yepper I did. Do a search through the forum and you should find the story. I found a 21D in the same bag! Somebody was real mad somewhere! Their collection got spent!

My best are a 1931-D Wheatie I found in a roll at work and a 1939-D nickel I found a couple of weeks ago. Semi-keys/keys can be found if you are lucky!

My wife pulled a 21 Walker out of a box once. I pulled a 16-S a little later on. Both coins are worth 3 figures.

I've found a few better dates over the years ...
My best two are a 1972 dbldie (the real one - not a lesser known variety) & a 1921S Buffalo in Fine (my brother found that one & gave it to me).

Bunch of several types of 1972-P Lincoln double dies from a couple bags I bought. Four 1998 wide AM Lincoln from rolls, one 1999 wide am Lincoln from a roll, a few indians, no keys however, just errors.

Nooooo. 1972-P type 1, 2, 3, 6, 8's. Also a few 1995's. One 1983, type 1. Had some slabbed, PCGS. And I still like the word "pennies" over "cents". Old habits die hard, or not at all.

The difference between"doubled" and "penny" is it's not a matter of preference. The die can't be double, it's doubled. Nothing interchangable. It's like calling a die chip a cud. Just because people do it doesn't make it so. A cud is always on the rim. That is a lot of nice doubled dies!

I mainly search halves but nothing impressive, 2x1955, 1946DDR, 16x1970D. But I found 1972-DDO type 1 while I was searching cent. Now I don't do cent anymore. I also found 1913-D Type II buffalo in AU condition while doing Nickels. I am still doing halves but not as high volume as before. I will always do Nickels just because I want to see how many holes of my Buffalo folder can be filled.
