That's not a double sided ring. It's a single. A double has the coin writing on the outside as well. This is a hammered type. A double is totally different......

Heck...it's still neat as can be. That only means the double would be twice as cool....lol!

When you get the mass production going message me for my ring size....ha!

Again, well done RB!

That is a single sided ring or spoon ring (originally pounded with a spoon). Here is a link and pic to a double sided ring.http://cgi.ebay.com/AMAZING-SIZE-10-COIN-RING-FROM-A-1961-FRANKLIN-HALF_W0QQitemZ140134563383QQihZ004QQcategoryZ110666QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I think you call it a double sided coin ring. A spoon ring is actually made from an old sterling silver spoon handle - wrapped in a circle.

I ordered a ring mandrel just last week so I can make a few of the double-sided rings. They are pretty neat. The first one I think I'll give to my grandaughter. She's out here on vacation from Colorado. Nice job on the single-sided.

I hope you got a solid steel mandrel. The cheap ones with the groove won't work at all. I found that out already. Bent up my cheapo one pretty good....ehehe. Then I got the solid steel one and now it's off to the pounding.......

I wonder if it's possible to do it in a smaller size... like say, an 8 or 8 1/2. Yeah, I've got hands like a chic. :-/ People have always said I'd be good at playing the piano though. :)

Since I have only made one myself I am no expert that's for sure. But I know that my ring size is just about a 12. Using a half dollar drills it out just to about nothing left for a ridge inside. You could make one with a ring size a lot smaller using a half but you would have more of a ridge inside. I'm not sure how it would look or feel. I guess you could try using a clad but they are a lot harder to work with. A quarter is for very small sizes like 4 or something.
Let us know what you find out....

Very nice! I would be interested in learning how to do it as well. Might not ever make one, but still knowing how it was made would be cool.
