Looks more to me like it got caught in a machine and worn away rather than major greaser.

Could be struck through grease.

Dryer damage is usually seen prominently on the rim such as this. But it still could be some type of machine damage that doesn't affect the rim.

Dont know what its worth, 20 to 30 bucks maybe on ebay if it is struck through grease.

I was thinking of "machine" more as one used in a game of chance, or something similar.

Some times coins would get caught inside the slot machines where I worked. I am by no means any expert, but the coins would wear down similar. I have no idea about your coin but thought I would throw that in. We would have so much fun looking for silver half's. Now most everything is coin free.

if it was grease you would see the rivulets as it flowed across the surface, just my opinion

Was going through some older files on the PC when I ran across something. And as I'm on the last day of data usage, I'm running on vapors!! So instead of posting, you'll have to go there yourself:
Die Adjustment Strike Errors - US Coin Mint Error Images

Not sure if yours might be similar to the one on the bottom (the Kennedy), but looks quite similar. Have no idea of value, though.
