Tanner and I came across this silver 1941 British 6 pence last night. It is the first one we have ever found.

Sometimes known as a tanner or sixpenny bit, was a coin worth one-fortieth of a pound sterling, or six pence. It was first minted in the reign of Edward VI and circulated until 1980. Following decimalisation in 1971 it had a value of  2 [SUP]1[/SUP]⁄[SUB]2[/SUB] new pence. The coin was made from silver from its introduction in 1551 to 1947.

Description

Very cool! I once found a 1944 20 centavos silver from the Philippines in a roll of nickels before, it's always fun to find surprises like that!

I've gotten a few King George coppers in half dollar rolls. And once got a silver quarter in a customer roll of halves. Must have used it for a filler.

Cool find! I found one of those about 2 months ago in a cwr of dimes. Thought it was a penny stuck in a dime roll, turned out to be the 6 pence. Mine was Australian

That's awesome, congrats! I've got four or five of these and assumed by their tone when dropped that they were silver. The ones I have are from the early 1900s and I don't think they would fit in a penny roll. I got a five pence in a dime roll yesterday and it was smaller and more modern so maybe they changed size like pennies and such did back then. That's awesome n thanks you let me know mine are in fact silver.
