It's been a while since I posted (11/17), but I've been searching pretty hard (for me) and reading posts along the way. I'm still try to read all the old posts as well and I think I'm all the way back to page 270.
Anyway, a quick recap of my 2016. After toying with CRH'ing over the years, I decided to dive in seriously in September of 2016.
My modest results as follows:
30K halves searched
40% - 73
90% JFK - 18
Franklin - 6
Walkers - 2
My best box came in box 36 with 2 40s, 5 90s and a Franklin. I did manage to score 4 bags off the machines at my bank with the best one producing 19 40s and 2 90s.
25K in bags of quarters searched
12 Washington
1 Standing Liberty
A pretty good average that is not holding true in 2017.
5K in bags of dimes
10 Rosies
2K in bags of nickels
8 War nicks
12 Buffs
So that is my in review. 23.89 ounces of silver if my math is correct.
Let's move on to 2017.
On January 3rd, my very first box of halves of the year produced my best totals to that point, 14 40s and 2 90s. That same day, I made my first reject tray silver find, a nice Rosie, from my dump bank. I also hit a Washington quarter from a bag and 4 Rosies from a bag. A nice little day for me. So I go along, making small finds here and there and then on January 28th, I pick up 4 boxes of halves from my normal pickup bank. I open the first box and what do I find? 8 enders. EIGHT!
Well, that is by far the most enders I've ever seen at one time. A quick calculation says that 8% of my ends are silver, so that means maybe the box has 80 silver coins in it. I'm 46 years old, but when I decided to do this back in September, my mother, who was quite intrigued by the idea, put $1000 into my search fund. Seeing as how she gets a kick out of opening rolls with me and has actually gotten two CWR rolls from her own bank that had 6 silvers per roll, I decided to set this box aside and wait until the end of the next week for her to open it with me. It took all the willpower I could muster not to open that box, but I did look at it a few times and discovered what ended up being a 9th dirty reverse ender.
In the meantime I opened the other three boxes of halves. Box 1 was a skunk. Box 2 had a 90%er. Box 3 had 5 40s and a 90. Pretty good results for me.
The end of the week rolls around and my mom comes to visit. We first opened two boxes of halves that I had picked up that morning and they were skunks. Now it was time for "The Box". Normally, I prep the rolls by using one of those rolled out souvenir pennies to begin the unrolling process. My mom and I open rolls until we find one and then we show it off. For this box, since I had such high hopes for it, we opened them one at a time, alternating and showing them off. I opened the very first roll and said "Holy S". Just like that, S. The first roll was my first ever with 6 silvers in it.
What a way to start!

Roll 50 (double ender-which I didn't notice until I opened it) - 4
A grand total of 109 40% halves, or 10 more than all the silver halves I found in 4 months last year. I don't expect to ever see another box like this one, but I'll keep looking.
