I stopped by my dump bank intending to use the self service coin counter and I waited behind a man dumping 2 plastic dishpans full of coins in the machine. I could see he was getting a number of coins in the reject shoot so I offered to help him re-load the US coins for a second try.
I pointed out a number of Canadian and other non-US coins and he says 'they're yours'. I notice a steel cent and an Indian head cent and show him those coins; he says 'you can have them and anything in the reject chute'. He said that he brings coins in once or twice a month from a business in a poor section of town; he was clearly in a hurry to get finished, I think he had over $1000 in coins.
The rejects? $3.56 Cdn, $2.41 US that wouldn't go through, 14 other foreign coins including a 1948 Belgium 5 franc (not silver) and then 1 steel cent, and a corroded wheat cent. The Indian head, although corroded, is an 1863 'fattie'!
