I played an early round of golf with a buddy this morn, and finish around 11:30. I had a little time for some coin roll hunting. Found a 40% in a teller tray and another in a cwr. There was a Walmart nearby so I decide to hit the coinstar and see if I could get to the "dirt cup", which netted me an Ike.

But in the parking lot I eyeballed this

Boom! $235 wrapped in a rubber band! A very unexpected find, made up for a crappy round of golf.

Should I tell the wife :tongue3:

HH!

That's funny! Day before yesterday I found a crinkly single $1 bill and felt lucky. You gotta be feelin' like a rich man!

Hard to tell if I'd tell...

about 2 months ago while pumping gas I was eyeing a dirty scratch off that turned to be an unclaimed 10 winner.. felt pretty lucky.. I bet finding 235 in cash feels about the same when you find a nice dream roll or 2 of 90%...

consider reporting the found item to store security and local PD. there are laws regarding property "found" in public----,
AND the all seeing security cameras have you and your vehicle on recording.
retain possession of property until it is reported lost.

you could get jammed up, OR, just some drug dealer lost his stash :hello2:,
BUT, maybe it was a down payment for a wheelchair for some poor handicapped child :dontknow:

ethics can be as annoying as deciding between Coke or Pepsi :laughing7::dontknow:

I hear where you are coming from PEA, I asked the customer service desk if anyone reported any lost money and they said no, but that's as far as I took it. I'm all for returning lost property but you have to draw the line somewhere.

If I'm coin roll hunting and find $110 of solid silver halves (which I have), do I go back in ask the teller to call the person up who deposited it, because I'd like to inform them of what they did.... Heck no... I go back in and ask them if they cashed in anything else.

I know that example isn't "lost" property, but is an ethical dilemma. I'm good with the situation. I think every member on t-net runs into an ethical situation like this pretty often finding lost property and such. I hope to one day get an honorable mention, I'd love to return something lost.

Oh and most importantly.... Coke all day... :laughing7:

Twice for me in the past month I have found money. 1st, I was in the store getting an invoice signed, look down and under the foot of the guy in line there is some cash. I picked it up and I could tell it was from his wallet. I asked him if it was his, he said yes. So I gave it to him, he was missing an arm so even if it wasn't his, he could've used it more then me. Then the following week at another stop, there is a $50 and a check, a $30 Birthday check. Took it in and gave it to the manager. She retuned it to the owner the next day, they were very thankful, so she said. I can't say that if I wasn't working I wouldn't of kept that money, but I knew if it ever came back to me taking it on company time, I might not have a job....wasn't worth it for about $100. But an hour after the second find, I get my best box ever....say it's karma, say it's luck, I don't know. Can't disagree with Z for keeping the money. Nice way to keep your eyes open to what's on the ground. Sorry to hear you had a bad golf outing, I'd like to just make it out....

I was thinking I would have done the same thing - check with the store to see if anyone reported lost money. If not, then that's that.

Good call.

I found almost 2 million dollars in shares once. The rightful owner was unaware of the value. He and his wife are now pleasantly retired :)

It's a moral dilemma. Hand the cash over to the store, never see it again or know if the previous owner got it. Hand it over to the police, and never see it again either or know, most likely. I've been told that most paper money has a minute amount of of drug residue on it and any well trained drug sniffing dog will always point it out, thus it's drug money and they can seize it. Or that the dog is trained to point it out with special signals from the handler, but that's another issue. If you feel bad, hand it over to the police and you can sleep at night? Or, go through the drive through, pay for the guy behind you, stuff like that, and reverse any bad karma the previous owner may be cursing down upon whoever found his cash.

. The owner maybe old timer who needs the money. I googled the amount and equates to a welfare $ check. How about donate some to a local veterans group with PTSD or local law enforcement or a food kitchen?

Easy call... coke rules & Pepsi sucks. I am amazed they are still in business. When at a restaurant, I would rather drink water from the mop bucket than a Diet Pepsi.
And yes, keep the money- you did your duty in asking the store if it had been reported lost.

Little over a year ago my wife asked me to take her mom to the casino in town. I took her and took $50.00 of my CRH money. I played video poker and lost the $50.00 pretty quickly. I decided to go find my mother-in-law as I spotted her I also spotted a $50.00 bill on the floor.
Picked up the $50.00 stuck it in my pocket and sat down next to my M-I-L and talked to her while she played the slots.

Just goes to show how much folks differ. Coke products suck. Pepsi products are great. I'd rather drink dirty water than ANY diet soda.

Nice find on the wad of bills. HH ALL

I was 16 years old, and my mother and I where on our way to the post office and we found an envelope in the parking lot with a mixture of 10, 20, and 50 dollar bills totaling $500. I convinced her to walk down to the police station to report it lost. I filled out paperwork as the claimant if the money isn't claimed. The officer told me in 6 months time to come check in. After the longest 6 months ever I go back... when I asked if the money had been claimed, What money the officer said. The same officer that took it into custody, the same one that walked me through the paperwork... What money... I was pissed, here I am 16, trying to buy a first car... Could have just kept the cash, but had to do the right thing. I believe he either pocketed it or they split it between the cops on duty. Very small town everyone knows everyone. If it's a wallet with Id and it's got money falling out of every pocket... I make every effort to return it. Cash... I'll always think twice.
