Those of you that keep very detailed records, and you know who you are, do you know what percentage of your total boxes were complete SKUNKS? I'm working up my numbers (total boxes vs total skunk boxes) for this year and will post when I get done (via a pic of my worksheet). It would be interesting to compare numbers, and also what coins were in the research (cents, nicks, dimes, qtrs, halves ). Be as honest with the numbers as you can so that results are not distorted. Comments & thanks for comparing notes.

I only do halves and skunk rate has been pretty consistent over the years I've kept track. Skunks are no-silver boxes for me. I don't keep much of anything else and when I do, if there is no silver in the box it is still a skunk.

2017: 52.22% skunks (with one month left)
2016: 55.84% skunks
2015: 50.27% skunks

I'm more prone to track averages rather than skunk boxes. I've noticed my average silvers per box going down over the years. To answer your specific question though, for halves, I've averages 40% - 50% skunk boxes per year. However, the boxes that have not been skunk have more than made up for the skunk boxes.

I only track rolls since I often go to a bank and ask for 20 rolls. The last time I did that for 20 BWR of dimes I got 30 rosies.

My signature shows the breakdown of CWR and BWR and finds, of course this year I didn't get back into it until a month ago and that with a bang!

I started keeping detailed records this year...
From January-Now, my skunk rate for half dollar boxes is currently 77.24%.

My lowest skunk rate was in May, at 65.22%. 2017 has been by far the worst year for CRH I've had in 7 years.

Finally compiled my DIME SKUNK numbers for 2017 thru Nov., as: 344 boxes, 491-Rosie's, 92-mercs, total 583. Total SKUNK boxes as 113 for 32.8% skunks, 1.7 ag avg/box, 42.2 oz. of silver. Not complaining. Had it not been for those two super boxes during the year (Jan & Nov) my numbers would have been much lower, but skunks remain the same. Thanks for all your honest answers.

HALVES - 2011 56%
2012 68%
2013 61%
2014 56%
2015 61%
2016 55%
2017 100% (I gave up on halves as my average finds per box keeps dropping)

DIMES 2012 28%
2013 30%
2014 19%
2015 25%
2016 19%
2017 20%

Dimes count doesn't include "sparklers" which I look for first. When I find a box i return it to a different bank unopened.

I just recently started CRH halves, but since Oct 23rd I've gone through 32 boxes and 17 had no silver. 53% Skunk. And found 31 silver out of those 32 boxes.

Then I've found 61 silver out of $4,047 searched from random loose/rolls the banks had on hand or bags off machines. Out of those 62, 42 came from a $465 bag off a machine, and 11 off a $435 bag.

I just love when bags are avail to get my take on a full dump from a collection or "piggy bank".

I have asked every bank within 10 miles of here, quite a few, about buying the bags off the machines and they all say no. Most say it is because the counts are not accurate, makes you want to know exactly how much you are dumping, is that count right?

and only one bank in about 30 in the area will order halves for me. I make sure not to use there counter as I don't want to tick them off.

Ben: suggest that the next time you make a dump, have the exact amount already counted out, then dump it to see if the amount on the machine are the same. Sometimes the machine may need recalibration, then you can tell the head cashier about it for them to correct the sensors.

jr98119: your percentage numbers are a lot lower than mine in Dimes, that's good, what is your avg silvers per box (1.7 is mine so far for the year). Keep it up.

Typically, 49 lbs 12.4 ounces is $1000.00(give or take $1.00). I always have this amount so there are no problems when I dump my halves.

I sort of did that today, I had 18 $10 rolls of quarters in a box and dumped it in the machine, it came out $180.35 I didn't add any, I just opened and put in the box, maybe one roll had an extra, they were CWR.

I don't keep records of boxes just rolls as I often get single rolls or ask for 3 or 4 rolls of dimes as I am at a bank for something else.

Bingo - my 2017 average silvers per box is 1.75. If my comparitor would sort out the Canadian dimes, it would probably be better, as I've found a few just cracking open the rolls. fwiw, my 2016 average was 2.7 and my 2015 average was 2.2

First year keeping track of records after finding this website. 76 half dollar boxes with 62 with no silver and 18 with silver for a silver rate of 26%. Very disappointing however, I am going to continue as I am seeing many others with higher numbers. This doesn't count all the silver found in tellers draws which totals 77 40% and 34 90%.
