Had to do a double take on the date on the first '58 here, looked way too shiny. Pulled 18 wheats in my last bag, so broke outta that slump.

I also found a 2018 that caught my eye. Looks like an issue with the planchet, as there seems to be a ridge around it, but under the microscope there appears to be some doubling:

Lastly, found this worn 1972. Guessing its just wishful thinking, but does appear to be something goin on:

Happy hunting everyone!

The 1972 is clearly a doubled die. There were a lot of varieties that year, so you'll need to do a bit of research to determine which variety you have.

Yes the 72 is a doubled die. The 2018 appears to be a trick of the lighting.

Just for grins, weigh the 2018.

I agree that lighting can make things look completely different than they are. But, at the same time, something looks bizarre with the general form of that cent.

Sadly, don't have a scale...yet. Definitely looking to getting one soon. I think its more a planchet error that makes the lettering look off. Thinking the "2018" is mainly lighting, and the "ridge" around the coin is what is making the "IN GOD WE TRUST" look a bit weird.

Yeah, I'm thinking the "ridge" is causing the 2018's lettering to look weird. Also think its funny, initially I figured the 2018 was something and the 72 was wishful thinking. Also, pretty sure this is the first "good news" I think you've given me, so appreciate that :-p. Think maybe I'm learning!

It's not a likely explanation, but sometimes an under weight planchet can result in an unusual strike and/or unusual appearance of the field.

A gram scale is dirt cheap from Amazon or Harbor Freight.

The 2018 is likely Die Chatter. The die strikes, and chatters against the coin with causes the shadow effect. It is technically an error, but not worth any additional money. It is mostly in the luster on the surface and not very deep in the coin.
