I don't make "extra" trips to my banks to look for coins. It's a fairly long way to drive and I got so many "we don't have any of those" replies last year, I didn't try too much in 2018 at all.
So today, I had to make a deposit, so I could transfer funds to pay off a $40 credit card bill. I had a small amount of change in my pocket, so waltzed over to their coin counting machine to dump them in and spotted something big in the reject tray.
Here it is:
No it's not orange, it's this lighting.
I made the deposit and almost as an after thought asked the teller if she had any halves. She hesitated a moment and said yes, she had some in her tray. She said she had $12.50 worth so I took them, as she was counting them I noticed the lack of that coppery color the clad ones have.
So I got another $12.50 in 40% halves at face. It's been a LONG time.
One is a bicentennial, which is the first one I have ever found in the wild. I assume the machine rejected them and the person had to turn them in to the teller and that, as they say, is that.
