Although I'm mostly into dimes for silver, I also hunt cents where possible by getting bags from the same branches that I get my dime bags. I had picked up a cent bag about two weeks ago, and finally got into it last night since I was out of dimes to search. About 1/5th of the way into the bag, having pulled 15-Wheaties already ( 4 are below 1939 ), out pops out this Indian Head reverse side showing. I quickly turned to the obv to see date 1873. Although badly worn, I would grade it as less than good, it was still a coin that had me stoked even for a short while. It's been a long time since I found an IH in the wild. I still have over half the bag to search, who knows if there are others. I'm already more than happy with some of the older Wheaties found. Will post final results when finished, for now tonight, I've got another Dime bag that I picked up this afternoon.
This is about as good pics I could come up with, for the non believers.

Hard to believe that IH's are still out there in the Wild, I would think more scarce than a Mercury dime. HH, DozerD

Oooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Nice one! It’s been about $2k fv for me (1.5 months) since I’ve found one!!

On an aside, you’re absolutely right. I have found 2 mercs in the last couple of months, one in a handful of change I found in the reject compartment in one of my dump cu’s coin machines (conveyer belt machine) and one in a box when I picked up two boxes back in January. It is definitely way more rare to find an IH. Very nice find, and an old one at that. Post here with the results
Of the full bag please!

Results: the dime bag gave up 8- silvers (7-Rosies, 1-merc: 1943-s)
Not finished with the cent bag yet, pulled a few more wheats last night. Hope to finish tonight.

A little hard to tell from the pic, but I think your '73 IH is the "open 3" variety, which is more common than the closed 3. The 1873 doubled Liberty is the rarest - but I have no idea how to identify it when the Liberty is worn off. IMO, your coin would grade G-4. Congrats on the great save!

I am about half way through my $480 fv that I have picked up over the last couple of weeks and still no IH found. I am well over $2k since the last ones I found (I found 3 in one weekend, second weekend in February).

I am starting to itch... I might have to step up my pickups

Just got one IH this weekend
1905
First in a long long time.

Got the following (pic) Saturday thru searching:
$13 in cents
$10 in nickels
$225 in dimes (3 silvers - been getting silver dimes regularly for now - about 1 every $150-$200 on average)

On Sunday when in the supermarket, got this 1963D silver dime in coinstar. Also got 25 centavos from Guatemala and 1 cordoba from Nicaragua as well

Results finally from that Cents bag, besides that old 1873 IH, was able to pull 45-Wheaties, (1919, 1929x2, 1939, the rest in the 40s-50s), but managed to pull this very very nice 1949 (I grade as ExtFine) still with a little mint luster. I wish all my collected wheats looked so good.

pretty solid results I’d say. Couple of older wheats in there that’s always a good thing. That’s a pretty nice one in the picture. I have found a lot of wheats, but very few in that nice of shape.
