    Wartime Nickels [498]
    1942-P (11/4/19) [31]
    1942-S (12/10/19) [22]
    1943-P (11/7/20) [101]
    1943-D (9/15/09) [9]
    1943-S (11/5/20) [100]
    1944-P (12/17/19) [53]
    1944-D (9/24/19) [21]
    1944-S (10/30/20) [22]
    1945-P (10/17/20) [56]
    1945-D (8/12/11) [21]
    1945-S (11/7/20) [62]
Really on a roll now! The Cortez gives it up yet again today with these two wartime beauties - 1943-P & 1945-S - which puts me into double digits for the year in silver nickels. Searched roughly $150 and though no new dates were found, two Canadian nickels joined the fun - 1989 & 2016.
If everything stays on track and provided there are no new COVID casino closures, I may reach 500 by Thanksgiving.

Fun Stats: Last time I found a 43-P & 45-S on the same day was 7/25/08 when I found eight wartimes in one casino visit.

This Week in Casino Searching History: Speaking of 1989, this week that year I found a 1979-S (Ty 1) impaired proof nickel.

    Wartime Nickels [499]

    1945-D (8/12/11) [21]
    1945-S (11/7/20) [62]
Oh so close! The Cortez teasingly gave up just one wartime today - 1943-P - to keep me at the threshold of 500. Instead of another silver, a nifty 1978-S made an appearance, my 2nd proof of the year. Extra goodies included a 1949-S, the 12th of my 2nd roll, and a 2009 Mexican peso, a sweet reject chute find.

COVID update: Our governor has advised people to stay home while NV cases and hospitalizations are currently at record levels. If things don't abate, he's threatening harsher measures two weeks from now.

Fun Stats: After finding that 78-S, I only need a 75-S & 77-S to complete a 70's run of proof nickels, which started on 9/14/87 when I found a 72-S.

This Week in Casino Searching History: Exactly one year ago today I also found a 1943-P silver.

I haven't checked this thread in a while. Glad to see you're doing well on the nickels Immy.

That's positive thinking for ya (great to see you back btw), but there was no silver to be had during today's visit, however...

...this will do quite nicely in its place.

Yup, buffalo #6 for 2020 is the 2nd 1919 I've found this year (Jan 28th was the first). This one also needed a Nic-a-Date rinse, in fact a double dose was necessary and it still didn't come out all that clearly (hard to see in the pic too). Funny thing is, back on Oct 30th a found 1923 buffalo tied 1919 for 2nd most common all time for me. Now 1919 regains the #2 spot:

    36P - 7
    19P - 6
    23P - 5

No new Jefferson dates so the total remains at 44 of 61 pre-1960 since January. Other notables were a 1939 and three 2009-D. 09's turn up fairly regularly it seems.

Fun Stats: First recorded 1919 buffalo finding was 3/4/02, 2nd was on 3/28/04, 3rd (see below), 4th was 2/15/09.

This Week in Casino Searching History: On 11/23/08, I found my third 1919 buffalo.

My next search & sort of my collection by mm is my Buffalos, of which I have over 2000 to check. About half are dateless, some have been nic-a-dated, but still many without acid.

Ugh! What a wasteland the last month has been at the Cortez.

Considering the great finds in Oct & Nov, coming up with my 500th silver nickel by the end of the year was a slam dunk, right? Au contraire! That 1996-S impaired proof you see above? It's the sum total of nickel discoveries lo these past few weeks. Next week looks kinda busy for me so it looks like I won't have another chance to search until the new year. So close...

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Fun Stats: Of the 25 proof nickels I've found, only 4 have been from the 90s.

This Week in Casino Searching History: In 2002, I found a 1990-S proof nickel.

The first Cortez search of 2021 ended up like the last few weeks of 2020...a bust. Went thru about $150 in nickels too.

The good news is two more pre-1960 dates were ticked off (1942-D & 1947) meaning we have the final 15 list:

    1938PD, 1939DS, 1942PS, 1943-D, 1944PD, 1945-D, 1946-S, 1948-S, 1950PD, 1954

Comparing these to previous lists, a couple regulars are not present: 1951-S, 1955; and the venerable 1946-S finally makes its first appearance as well as the 1954, the highest non-silver mintage of the group.

Fun Stats: This is my fourth Top 15 list, though the third is still unfinished (see here - Immys Casino Royale - Page 6 (treasurenet.com))

This Week in Casino Searching History: In 2005, I found two war nickels - 1944-D & 1945-P.
