Charged SERVICE FEE for box of halves

I picked up $500 Box of halves sealed from bank, Loomis, MR. and bank charged $4 service. You ever heard of such nonsense!,,,,,,!

One of my branches charges $5. The other three I have used - zero. Zero is about what I'm getting out of the boxes.

Some of us have heard over the years that charging a fee was off in the future and we should all decide if it was worth it to us. Personally, I will not pay. So far I have enough money in the both banks I use for the coins that they probably would not ask me to pay, but I would remove the funds in a second should they try. Up to you if it is worth paying for your hobby with the possibility of making more than the costs involved.

Personally for me if I had to pay to pickup or dump I would stop doing it. as it is I didn't break even if I figure in my gas for 2019 (2018 I did ok) but if I use the IRS standard for wear and tear etc of 50 cents a mile it is better to buy junk silver

it all depends on what why you search halves, if it is for silver it is not worth it to my mind. If it is for silver and what I do put together a set of coins in a Dansco album then you have to make a decision. I don't know if I would continue or not. My first bank didn't charge, just one day they refused to order any more halves period. I don't overload them with halves as one of my other banks that someone did that do changed their counters so they no longer accept halves and they refuse rolled coin.

Golf is one of those expensive hobbies, another is shooting - my 45-70's cost $2 per shot for factory ammo

Since it is still my money and I can get it back at any time I don't consider it a fee. I only set up accounts at banks with coin counters, I would rather have a $10 savings account there than pay 10% to count coins and I don't have time to wrap them AND many banks around here won't take rolled coins.

Do you have places that let you use the coin counters for free?

You think your shells are high. Mine almost double, and triple yours at times per shell. Barrett 82A1 semi auto with 29” fluted barrel. I chose this one because it was already desert sand color, and was of course semi auto which is fun when you are going out, and showing someone it’ll take down a tree with a few shots. My uncle has two ricks of wood I took down with it

Yup the Barrett's are pricey to feed. I reload my 45-70's so even buying the bullets it is less than 50 cents each. Also I as I get older I am leaning more towards carbines...

I used to handle all my transactions in cash, but corporate policy has forced them to lookup account info for any transaction. This action has curtailed my large volume that I used to do. My dump bank chain is BoA. About a decade or more ago, they were required to file a SAR for any transaction of $8500 or more regardless if the teller knew the customer. So for a long time, I kept my cash transaction at $6k/per transaction. I was able to dump at a series of BoA branches that were on my dump run with $6K/per branch all with smiles/cash. Now, they require the account lookup and my volume has been nipped. I still hunt and always will, but my days of $30K are over with.

I’m the same way[emoji23][emoji23] I reload all my rounds. I’ve also gone more towards carbines as they are not only lighter, but more comfortable to shoot. I bought a old Mosant Nagant carbine just to have it. I restored it, reblued all of the blue finish, and sent the bolt, and action to be re-Nickel plated. Was a fun gun, sounded like a cannon going off, but was actually reasonably accurate. I’m like you though, after my spinal fusion, I find it hard to hold up a long gun very long. The Barrett has a very thick, and sturdy bipod so I can lay down to shoot it. Before I had the back surgery I could sit on one knee, with my elbow holding it up against my knee, and shoot it that way, but between the knee replacement, and spinal fusion I am lucky to get on the ground, and get back up
