Had a late start hunting this year, didn't pick any boxes of coins up until this past weekend. I picked up a box of halves, a box of dimes, and a box of nickels.

But I suppose it was worth it to take the first week and some days of January off to recharge, because all the boxes gave up silver.

The box of nickels gave up two war nickels:

1944P
1944D

one.jpg

two.jpg

The box of halves gave up two 90%ers and six 40%ers:

1953D Ben
1964
1965 x 2
1966
1967
1968D
1969D

three.jpg

And, yes, I finally broke a 50+ dime box skunk streak that lasted almost all of 2019 with a box of that gave up three Roosies:

1957
1963D
1965

four.jpg

The lack in quality of the dime picture is because my younger son wanted to snap it from his phone, which was my old piece of crap, that I gave him to play around with. So I obliged him.

Anyway... what a good start to 2020!

Good to see you're back up on the horse!

Thanks!

Barely back on that horse though, only one of my pick-up banks has agreed to start ordering halves again. Originally had two banks tell me they would start ordering, but one of them changed their mind.

TD Banks around me are all closed too.

Are you back in the game yet or no?

Not yet... My dump lobbies just opened back up so I was able to get rid of what I was stuck sitting on since March.

With the "shortages" going on, all of the suppliers in my area are being disrupted or are at least irregular so I don't really want to bug my pickups until things kind of even out. My dumps also mentioned that their couriers haven't been back yet to pick up bags since they opened so they're actually running out of room to store them and I don't want to add to that problem.

That, and I don't want to be sitting on a hill of halves again if things suddenly shut back down. I am considering going on a drive in a couple weeks if lobbies start to open back up, though with the coin shortage who knows if banks will want to even sell me halves if they have them, esp if I don't have an acct.

No rush for now, but eager to get back in for sure!

Been picking up one box of halves per week for the last month-and-a-half, they've all been skunks.

Picked up a box over the weekend and it had a pretty neat ender:

The box also gave up six silvers, one 90%er and five 40%ers:

1964
1966
1967 x 2
1968D x 2

Picked up a box of halves earlier today that gave up some silver and a cool plastic token.

The box gave up two 90%ers and four 40%ers:

1964 x 2
1968D X 3
1969D

That tavern is about 90 miles from me, maybe I'll take a ride and see if I can get that bottle of beer once things return to normal.

This week's box of halves gave up four silvers and a neat, albeit ugly, clad modern commemorative.

All four silvers were 90%ers:

1945 Walker
1957D Ben
1962D Ben
1964

one.jpg

two.jpg

Tossed the clad commemorative back for the next guy, I've already got an uncirculated 1994D and it's just a straight up ugly coin.

Been about a month since I've found any silver, although skunk streaks aren't as painful when you only can get one box of halves per week.

Picked up a box of halves over the weekend that gave up eleven keepers, two 90%ers and nine 40%ers:

1964 x 2
1965 x 2
1967 x 4
1968D x 2
1969D

Boxes of halves have been absolutely skunky for me the last month+.

But, I got a nice early Christmas present yesterday.

Got a text from my girlfriend late yesterday, who is the head teller at her branch, that said an older lady brought in $30 in halves + $2 in Ikes. She said she bought 'em off of her and then sends me this:

one.jpg

Total take was 33 40%ers:

1966 x 3
1967 x 11
1968D x 16
1969D x 3

Real nice haul. It helps to have an inside "man".

I picked up my weekly (skunk) box of halves yesterday and the teller asked me if I wanted the $14.50 in halves he had. I answered without hesitation, "Yes". I paid for them and he was going to try to put them in a paper envelope but I asked him to just dump them into my small bag.

When I got home, I examined the coins and found a 1980 Mexican 1 peso piece and three 40% silver Kennedys, so all was not lost.

Finally getting around to my year-end tally...

This has been a weird year, I'm sure everyone can agree. I only had one long-ish skunk streak, which wasn't even that long compared to past years. But, there were fourteen weeks that I did absolutely zero hunting because of the lockdown. That hurt a lot.

However, the silver still trickled in and there still were a few highlights. And I still added to the stack, so it's all good.

I picked up a total of 63 boxes of halves + $5,040.00 in CWR and loose halves. Paltry compared to last year's numbers. I also picked up a total of 17 boxes of dimes + $500.00 in CWR and loose dimes, snagging myself 17 keepers total. I picked up one single box of nickels, which gave up two war nicks.

I also searched through $85 worth of Ikes this year, netting me my second silver Ike. Also searched through $400.25 in loose quarters, netting me a lone silver Washington.

All in all, not too bad of a year despite the drastically lowered volume.

Total silver found in 2020: 50.86 ozt.

A few highlights:

Good luck and happy hunting in 2021, everyone!
