Box off pennies from 60s and 70s. Do I keep red cents?

I picked up some customer rollled pennies at the bank yesterday and discovered about 25 percent of them are still red.



So far I have only searched 3 rolls and they are all from the 1960’s and 70’s

Also pulled 2 wheats one 1919 and one 1944

My question is... should I set the red cents aside or let them go?

Not sure if they have any real value so I am checking with you first.

I do. I used to keep ALL the coppers, but now just the reds. This way it doesn't take up 25 feet of space in the garage and only the good ones are left. I won't miss the money in the wallet, and someday they should carry a little value. More of for kicks than for investment.

Hi, I read a article recently by a coin dealer/collector & he said that the red cents were worth saving & that they were sought after & more value than the brown cents.

buy a REDBOOK------I sell many cents for way above face--- plus the red errors will have better value than a brownie

Ultimately, I say it depends on what you want to collect and what you plan to do with them.

If you aren't going to miss the cash and have storage space for them or plan to sell them for a profit right away, keep them. If you would rather not tie up the cash and storage space, cash them back in.

I used to date sort all cents and look for errors, but now I only date sort the ones that are face up when searching to save time and mostly quit looking for errors. If face down, looking at the back is enough to know if it is a wheat or something else collectible. For the ones face up, I do save the red coppers when I see them.
