Feel free to spend them just like any other half dollar. No value other than 50 cents face. They are a novelty gimmick someone came up with and sold as "collectable", anywhere from 5 to 20 bucks each. They have a light electroplate of gold on them that ain't worth spit as far as gold value goes.

Re: JFK Half dollar's with 1960/1980 stamped on them

I just found one a few weeks ago. Mine is a 1983 with 1960 - 1985 stamped on it. As others said, it is a novelty coin & worth 50 cents. As for the counterstamped dates, they have no significance at all. I did research this on a website. Hope this helps. Ron

They are intended to signify a 20th, 25th, etc... anniversary of Kennedy's Election or Assasination.

1960-1980 is to commemorate Kennedy's 20th anniversary of his inauguration. 1960-1985 represents the 25th. I found one a while back that still had a very shiny gold plating on it. My bank teller ,that orders halves for me, thought it was very pretty so I gave it to her. Got her chocolates last week.

Guess it pays to do more research. The site I was on was supposed to be an authority on coins. Sorry for the mispost about the counterdates having no significance. Your question helped me also. I wondered why someone would stamp dates without significance, it just didnt make sense. Ron
