Hello, I needed to take a trip to chicago and decided to get some coins along the way. I picked up $20 in halfs, but did not check them at the counter. It turns out one of them was off by a dollar- the tellers couldn't do anything about it. Then, I put some customer-rolled dimes through the machine- three were unaccounted for and one was put in the penny bag (not to mention someone somehow managed to shove a penny into a dime wrapper- the third time that happened). Then, i put the halves in, that i hand counted, and it was off by $1.50! How hard is it to count to twenty now-a-days! Well, i guess i got even by finding about 3 bucks in clad MD'ing, but it still pi$$es the hell out of me when i'm continually screwed over by lazy people and uncalibrated counters. I know it happens to a lot of you, but i think this way too far. btw, i only got one silver canadian out of the batch.

Well, i guess its just the cost of CRH'ing :-\

I just got a roll that was off by 3 coins also. In the past I've got short rolls and a few with extra coin. The one that really got me PO'd was the counter that shorted me $11.50. OUCH. The following week the same counter gave me back exactly half, an extra $5.75. Still wondering how I got .75 in a box of halves.

It's the price you pay for doing this sort of thing.

I'm off all the time but can't tell you how much, Cause I don't sweet the small stuff when your doing the volume that some of us do a couple of bucks here and there doesn't seem like much when your finding silver coins at face.

I often find penny's in hand rolled dimes but every now and than I find dimes in penny rolls. I could go on and on but that would serve no purpose.

You all need to learn the secret. The secret is your a magnet, and we attract what we want. We reap what we sow. If your negative you will attract negativity. IE more short rolls. If your positive you will attract more positive results. IE more silver or dimes in penny rolls or dollar coins in half dollar rolls and so on.

Don't dwell on the bad stuff. Stay positive.

It's the price of doing business.

You're right Mojo, I always think the next box is gonna be my dream box. Very few clad mixed in with a full set of Bens and Walkers, 87p and d, and a 1970d in great condition. LOL.

I put exactly $500 in a bag. The 3 machines I use always prnt a ticket for....$500. Sometimes there is a little extra cause those big coins kick a few "hiders" out. Sorry to hear about you getting shorted.

I once had a counter count about $5 worth of dimes as pennies and I only dumped $250 into the counter. Thank god I didn't dump a full $1000 in there. Needless to say, that machine only gets my halves, and that's ONLY if I'm in a pinch and have no where else to dump that day.

Even worse though, I've dealt with unethical tellers.

=Once I could hear coins still spinning in the counter and the teller refused to get them out (these were halves).
=Once I had a teller call me up and claim they overpaid me by $300. They claimed they recounted the coins by hand and their machine was not counting them correctly. Aside from knowing how much I gave them and they they paid me just under that amount, I repeated to here their standard response to me when their machines short my count. "Have to go by what the machine says".
=Once watched as a teller reduced the count displayed on the machine by the amount they needed to "balance" their machine. As I watched her do it, I spoke up. She proceeded to clear the machine and firmly state that what's written on the ticket is all I'm getting. This one was the worst because it was a head teller that did it. A real eye opener for all you business people that drop off your coin deposits, especially since most don't hand count them before they drop them off.

Needless to say, those are branches I don't go back to, but I feel sorry for the people that still blindly use them. Interestingly, they are all the same Bank. I've never had ethical issues like that from any other bank I've used (and I've used quite a few of them).

Another post for thought.

A high quality, high volume coin counter can cost a bank over $5000 to install.

A low volume, moderate quality (defined as 99%+ accuracy) can still cost a bank $2000 to install. When the majority of customers bring in less than $10-$20 in loose coin. Being off by 10¢ to 50¢ is not a big deal to them and if a customer says anything, they will usually just give it to them.

I once received a letter in the mail from my dump bank saying that they credited my account $10.50 because they found $10.50 in half dollars in the machine and they figured them to be mine, as she knew I run halves trough the machine.

 :icon_scratch: 8) ??? :)

I always try to run dimes and halves through certain counters that appear to be more accurate as I find dimes are the most frequently miscounted coin (usually as pennies) and I just don't want to be off with halves due to the $ value. Pennies I will run just about anywhere because if their machine wants to count them as dimes who am I to argue too hard (usually get a couple that count as dimes every time even in the "accurate" counters).

I have only used one coin counter once and that one was off , I dont know by how much because I didnt have the total amount of $$$$ that I had in halves ..But anyways it was off because it had counted some of them as quarters , I really didnt noticed till the teller that was there said oh you must have had some quarters then I started to watch the counter and it would go up while I was dumping but the amounts would sometimes end .25 and I know there was none in there... ???

The jet sorters in casinos (Cummins mostly) have their moments too. Now when I leave my slot machine to cash in I save the seat where I was sitting. If the total at the change booth is off, I take a floor manager by the ear (well, not really ;D) and show them the total I cashed out on the machine.

Amazingly, there was a time last year where a self-serve casino counter would routinely overpay by about $5-$10 per $200 in halves. :o I didn't make it obvious, but I cashed in there a lot!

BTW... have they fixed that yet? It was a nice little perk when I was there too. ;D
