As for more timely endeavors, on the afternoon of the 29th of August, I received notification that my preordered parcel of half dollars had indeed arrived at my banking institution of choice, and I dispatched myself there henceforth to retrieve it.

All other boxes of halves that I have ordered have been packaged in the "cubic" style of box, packed via the 5x5x2 manner in gray-and-white "shotgun" rolls. The box that awaited me was a "long flat" box, packed 5x10x1, all in brown handrolls without tape. Furthermore, the brown packing tape that spanned the box's girth had been split asunder, and the top flaps of the box stood agape, displaying the array of crimped roll wrappers. With great dread, I prognosticated that the bank's personnel had examined this box's contents afore I had chance to, and that scant pickings were in my future. However, I did accept the box in the gentlemanly manner, as not to arouse suspicion of my hunting proclivities.

Lo, what treasures did I unearth? Not a glint of silver did I spy. Found were a pair of 2002-D coins, a variety that I have encountered numerous times over. My first 2004-D made its appearance, and will fill a sore vacancy in my growing collection. Lastly a curiosity presented itself, in the form of a gold-plated coin. In this unfortunate specimen, the dates "1960" and "1985" had been smote upon the coin's surface with violent force. Though possessing little value, I retained this coin for novelty sake.

What shall my next adventure yield? My psyche swirls with fancies of luxurious doubloons, but only the Fates are certain of what may be.

In my own experience, the double stacked boxes belong to Brinks while the flat ones are CWI. That is in my area though and perhaps could be different from your own findings.

At least you were able to fill a hole with an NIFC find, it beats finding nothing I suppose.

As for the gold plated halves... I personally only keep the ones in brand new condition, of which I have only found a couple. I have tossed back dozens that were either dull or only partially coated due to circulation, etc.

I'm sure you know the meaning of the double dates, so I will not bother to mention that.

Square boxes are used by several besides Brinks. The Brinks rolls will be stamped with the Brinks name on the side.

In my travails over the last gross of hours, I have chanced to obtain the following coins from various money houses about the vicinity:

Half dollars (from ~6 rolls + many loose):
1965 x1
1966 x1 (new to me)
1967 x1
1968-D x4
1969-D x3
1977-S proof (new to me)
2002-P x1

Cents (from seven rolls):
1934-P x1
1942-P x1

Nickels (from five rolls):
1944-P x1
1947-D x1
1957-P x1
1989 Canadian (new to me)

From a teller's accumulation of 153 halves, I found a 2005-D and a 1980 Panama half balboa. Both finds are newcomers to my collection.

I went to my usual Wachovia branch on March 31st with the knowledge that they had a box of halves in their vault. To my surprise, they had four!

I sure hope these aren't somebody's dumps.

Four thousand coins later, I did find eleven keepers. None were silver, but I did find:
* 5x 2002-P
* 1x 2002-D
* 2x 2003-P
* 1x 2004-P
* 1x 2004-D

And a 2006-S proof!

$51 in hand-rolled halves from my usual bank branch yielded six 1964-P Kennedys and four 40%ers. This was my best silver haul in over a year!

Also, picked up some small dollars for spending. Got the 2009-P Harrison and Tyler dollars, three original rolls of 2007 Presidents, and a 2007-D Sacagawea dollar (pictured above).

Grabbed some assorted coinage from new bank branch nearest my office.

FOUND:
1941-D cent (filled a hole)
1958 cent
1940 nickel
1942 nickel
1951 nickel
1967 half dollar

Yippee.

240 customer-wrapped half dollars from Wachovia yielded a 2006-D. I didn't have one of those before.

I picked up twenty rolls of halves from two different banks (Wachovia and PNC):

1x 1964 half (90%! My first silver find in 2010!)
1x 2000-S proof (in bad shape)
3x 2002-P halves
3x 2002-D halves
1x 2003-D half

All but one of the 2002 and 2003 halves were in one roll marked "2002+ mix", which turned out to be accurate.

The teller at Chevy Chase bank didn't have any halves, but she did have ten Ikes, all bicentennials.

Later that same evening, I received my first 2009-P dime in change!

Ten rolls of halves produced.... nothing.

Two rolls of halves produced a 1968-D, 2006-D and 2008-S.

Hot and cold running luck, isn't it?
