Re: What grade would you give this Trade dollar?

I was just taking a few really close ups and saw what may be an error? The sash coming out of Liberty's left hand looks to have two L's in LIBERTY? Does it say LLBERTY?

could be Circulation Damage, an error or a Chinese counterfeit

IF Real I don't think it will grade higher then Very good

Mainly because of all the Pock Marks I see in the Close ups

Not sure when the Chinese counerfeiting started but I've had it for about three and a half years now. How would I know if it is a counterfeit?

all the Letters on LIBERTY Look off from each other to me.
(But it could be because of that extra L appearance.)

This is what has me wondering.

Other then that the Color looks right.

That looks like the real deal to me. I have seen a few fake silver dollars though. They had whare on them and they looked great. I was fooled till a guy put a magnet to them. Thats the key to a lot of fake coins and rings. Any time you can get any responce from a magnet,it is junk plated. I see 14kt ,10kt 925 all the time, and I have a small but powerful magnet that tells me they are junk. Mike

I have to say I believe it could be a counterfeit. If you look at the closeups there are numerous laised lumps, they are particularly visible above Trade Dollar on the reverse. Maybe they only look like raised lumps in the photo, but if they are it is almost a sure counterfeit. Best bet is to let someone knowledgable see it in person.
