thought it was a barber

I was detecting back in September
of last year at an old home site
and got a sweet silver sound on my ace
250 at 8 inches and dug my plug and
knew id found my first barber dime
but it was a little bigger than a barber
and it turned out to be this old silver
coin from 1900, looks like a barber though...

It's a Swiss coin, I'm not sure it's silver though. I think the demomination is 10 rappen (a 10th of a Swiss Franc). I thought these were all some type of nickel alloy.

Nice find, very interesting coin...but I'd like to know what silver sounds like with an Ace 250, as opposed to say, a clad coin. Because I've never noticed a difference. Maybe it's me...I don't know.

Correct. It is a copper-nickel composition. That composition started in 1879 after 1876 composition of billon. In 1918 & 1919 there were some minted in brass and in 1932, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939 there were some minted in nickel. The brass ones are pretty valuable; 1918 in fine=$15 and 1919 in fine=$50. Yours is about $2 in good-very good condition.
