Hey bud, I started looking at the coin for you again and doing some research. Sorry I still haven't unpacked any of my coins or books yet. But I did find this page on the 1883/2 Shields nickel that may help. With the wear on the coin its really hard to tell whats going on with it. These pictures seem to be a little nicer then the ones I got from you earlier. And also, its easier to tell whats happening with a coin in hand then from a picture. Hope this helps or at least is a good starting point for you. maybe some one else will chime in about it that is for informative about the Shields.

do you really think it is a 3 over the 2? I just can't be sure. it does not look like anything I can find on the net anywhere??

I would send that baby off to a professional grading co. and get it slabbed and graded. They will tell
you if it is a 3 over 2.I think it is but I am not a expert. But I think it would be worth sending off to see.
Congrats and good eye on your find.
