Any idea on this coin?

I have bought this coin and have been soaking it in distilled water to try to identify it and after looking at ebay and other sites I have not been able to identify it. I bought it off ebay and paid 1 dollar for it and was told it is an ancient roman coin. I figured a dollar was not a bad buy. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not found a date on it at this time. The opposite side of the coin has some hard clay on it but there is not date that I can visibly see at this time.

It is evidently a coin from one of the Islamic nations (Egypt, Turkey, etc.) and bears a Hejira date of 1277— ١٢٧٧— which equates to our year 1860.



The details appear to resemble those of a Turkish 20 para, a copper coin about the size of a half dollar.

I started with the same 1277 and ended up with 1861 (maybe my rounding error).

Actually, it's both— July 20, 1860 - July 8, 1861.

The coin's obverse (left pic of PBK's first post) features the 'toughra' of Sultan Abd al-Aziz (b1830-d1876), the Ottoman Turkish ruler (32nd sultan) from 1861 to 1876.
