Hello, All. I found this very nice coin earlier this spring at a colonial farm site. The site also produced several 1700s coins and a war of 1812 button. I understand it could be in the $400 to $700 range depending on a variety of factors. I also understand it was dumb to clean it in a non-professional way. Would appreciate an estimated grade you would give it and also which grading service I should send it to based on its condition (and about how much it would cost to grade). Thanks, Bergie

That is a great find! I do believe that coin would grade AU details, maybe AU55, but it would definatley say cleaned. As far as a company to send it in too, that would be up to you. PCGS would slab it and just mark it genuine. ANACS would put the details grade and then the net grade. ICG would just put the details grade. And NGC use NCS for problem/cleaned coins. They also assign the details grade. These are the only grading companies I would recommend. I use ICG, but that is just my preference. Hope the helps. Again, great find and good luck!

XF40-$270. Au-50- $395.00 Probably somewhere in between. That looks like a die crack or something on the Lady side...Nice find. Yep, never clean a possible good one until you find out for sure what the worth of the coin may be. Still worth some bucks though....Congrats...jgas

Large date G-4 $35 F-12 $90 VF-20 $300 EF-40 $500
Small Date G-4 $40 F-12 $100 VF-20 $325 Ef-40 $725

VF= Liberty Strong and even
EF= Liberty and scroll edges distinct
AU= Wear on Liberty's shoulder and hair high points

And it does look like it has a die crack on the bottom which would most likely add to its value a little I would say that it is VF to EF in condition. And I believe that is the Large date version.

I got this info from 2008 61st edition Red Book A guide book of United States Coins 2008.

Great find!!!

Nice coin, but wow that is really harshly cleaned. I don't think I would bother getting it slabbed with the cleaning. It is a shame too, that was an AU coin, probably took $300 to $400 off the value.

Since it is a cleaned coin, ANACS is your best bet. The others would body bag it and you are out the money.

They no longer body bag coins, if you read my post above, that is how they do it now. Yes, ANACS will put a net grade on it, but the other companies(ICG, PCGS, NCS of NGC)will slab a cleaned coin and put a details grade on it. PCGS will just slab it and put "genuine" on it.

AU- 58, Anacs would be my choice for certification. It would be about $50 to $60. Well worth it for a dime in that good of shape. Plus It would increase the value slabbed.
