5 months of winter. Time to clean out clad. What do you keep?

I tend to toss all the clad I collect into a box and not really look at it during the summer. Gives me something to do during the winter. I wondered if anyone had a "rule of thumb" or a good list for what they keep. Some coins that I keep or look at more closely:

1. Wheat pennies (pre-1958)
2. Pre-1983 penny (copper is worth more than a penny). Most pennies are not in great condition.
3. Post 1982 penny: 1983, 1984, 1990, 1992D, 1999, 2000 (these are to look for specific errors, otherwise I spend)
4. Indian head nickels
5. Nickel: Look at 1939, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1949, 1954, 1955. These are for potential errors. Otherwise I spend.
6. Dimes: Pre-1965
7. Dimes: 1982 (no mint mark).
8. pre-1965 quarters (silver)
9. Half-dollar: Pre-1971 (silver)
10. Dollar: Pre-1936. 1971S, 1972S, 1973S, 1974S, 1776-1976S (may be silver).
11. Any coin that appears to have error and I notice it (doubtful as my eyes get worse working on this computer. Even the lighted magnifier has its limits!).

I understand that because of condition issues, some of the coins may not be worth a lot, especially the newer year ones that are not uncirculated and with errors, but they are ones I look for and ultimately save. I have plenty of time.

On the nickels, you might want to keep ALL 1943, 1944 & 1945 & 1942 with the large mintmark on the reverse above the dome of Monticello. These are war nickels and have 35% silver content.

How can you tell if the Bicentennial Half Dollars are just plain clad or silver mixed ? i have a few rolls of them.

San Francisco minted both a proof and business strike on 40% silver planchets. Look for the "S" mintmark. Also, you can tell by the rim and the sound.

I keep wheaties and 1964-back on others. Everything else goes in the change jar.

Also, look for war nickels without the mint-mark above Monticello. Those are called Henning nickels.

Look for 1998 Wide Am pennies too, along with 99 and 00
