Burned Sacajawea $1 dollar ??

Dug these two the other day, they were both in the same park. One was 3" deep and the other was in the would chips under the swing. All I can figure is that the Sacajawea coin may have been burned. They didn't make them like this did they?

Sacagawea certainly looks to be burned. I suppose it could be damage due to the environment and length of exposure (Sacagawea was released in 2000 and the John Quincy Adams was released in 2008) but I really think it was subjected to fire.

Environmental damage.I've found 4 Sacajawea this past year in the bark chips and dirt.They look just like you'res

I would say being out in the enviroment also, those things do not hold up well to nature at all! heck they don't hold up well in the pocket either!

I found one each of the same 1.00 coins at differnt parks that look identical to yours.

Not burned... just environmental damage. The alloy is 6% zinc... and we all no how well zinc pennies hold up. The longer they stay in the ground, the worse these coins are going to look.

Ah, environmental damage it must be, not all together suprising. I never found one in the wild.

I would call that a "heart-breaker". . . I found one of those hunting
a park in SC while visiting my daughter and thought I had found my
first Large Cent because it was as black as coal. . . darn!

So yes, environmental damage would be the culprit.
