This coin was in with a bunch of old money my father in law gave me. I have no idea what it is or where from. It is fairly heavy and thick. It measures about 1" in diameter.
Dar treasurehound;
It looks like you have a very well worn silver Roman 1/2 Shekel Temple Tax coin, probably minted AD 45-66 and either in Tyre or Jerusalem. The bust figure is Melqarth who was the Tyrian version of Hercules. The left foot of the eagle is standing on a ship's ram and the Greek letters ΤΥΡΟΥ ΙΕΡΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΣΥΛΟΥ (of Tyre, the holy and inviolable) would have been visible to the left of the eagle's breast, had the coin been less worn.

Hi Treasurehound, have you got the size and weight of the coin, it looks good tho'. Size and weight will help to ID it. If you can post the details I'll look it up for you.

Dear hammered;
The weight of the coin should be between 5.5 and 6.5 grams and the size of it should be between 19mm and 21mm with a die axis of zero degrees. It's fairly obvious from the photos that the coin is a 1/2 shekel Temple tax coin.
