Well, I'm 13 and coin roll hunting is a great way to find old coins. I've found over 200 wheat pennies, 5 silver dimes, 2 silver quarters, and 5 silver halves (all in the same year). It's simple too!! :D
it is simple, i've found a ton. I've also found it's cheaper to buy them outright. Unless you drive a Yugo, or ride a bike to the bank. ffd

Hmm. "...with or without a detector" suggests you have one. What kind?

Maybe the detector doesn't work well, or, it might need new batteries? Do you know where to put the batteries?

Umm. Poke around any stone walls near your house (without disturbing them) Also the houses near you werent always there so even around your house might surprise you. It says you have a Detector, is it not working?
About the junk yards- Please please- watch out for bee's nests and yard dogs and moving sharp pieces of metal! Can you tell I'm a mom? Come home before the street lights come on too! ;D

Think of friends and family that might save their pocket change in a jar. Ask to look through them for "keepers."

Back in the 60's, my Grandfather was a barber and his shop was downtown. Every Saturday I would get a haircut whether I needed one or not. :-\
I took the opportunity to go through a tray of nickels on the counter my Grandfather kept for the customers to use to pay the parking meters. Got several good ones that way.

Best,
Scott

If you're looking to get coins without leaving the house, just ask your parents if you can start pulling up floorboards, or pulling down wall plaster, sometimes you can find really cool stuff hidden in the floors or walls.
