Key dates are coins that were minted in smaller numbers than their counterparts. Example is 1916 D Mercury dime (264,000 minted) as opposed to 1916 Philly mint (22,180,080 minted) and 1916 S (10,450,000). There are several key and semi key date coins, but basically it means they are more rare than the average coin of that type. Hope this helps :icon_thumleft:
