1864-L

Could any of you please tell me if this is a "rounded" or "pointed" bust ?
If it is pointed, would it be considered a "L" even though it is not visible ?

My guess would be this has a rounded bust. If it were pointed, the assumption is that it is an L. The mint made nearly 8 times more non-L's than L's for 1864.

here is a pic of an 1864 L..........notice the L in the ribbon where I circled it? If you have any indian AFTER 1864 and it is real good shape you can see the "L" in the ribbon, because all indians AFTER 1864 have the "L"
they also all have the pointy bust post 1864 as well

I guess my eyes are not as good as when I was younger. I am sure you all are correct, but I still can not see the difference.

Do the "rounded" bust on 1864's stick out past the "1", and on the 64-L's it pretty much is even with the "1" ? Is that the easy way to tell the difference ?

I am just trying to find out how to tell on worn 64's if they at one time had a "L".

do you have any indians at all that are a decent shape? look at any one of them post 1864 and it has a pointed bust, it is very distinctly different

Hi Kansas, Yes that is a good diagnostic to use on worn coins.

OK ! That helped me a lot.

Now I am really worried though. I knew my eyes were shot. Now I guess my brain is going, I should have thought about the comparing deal.
