Why are some Kennedy's worth so much?

I'm on my 5th box of halfs in the last 6 months and I'm finding many coins that book at $4.00-$7.00. Why are these worth so much and how do I sell them? I was thinking of putting a roll of 86P's on e-bay and seeing what happens. The silver is always nice and I have never gotten a skunk (yet). Is it worth saving the ones that are worth 3.00 or more?
Can anyone fill me in on the price gaps and why they are worth so much more? ??? Added note I have found 2 yes 2 1974D Ddl die as well as 100 or so of 40%-90% ! :laughing7:
