Hanging Date

This coin is peculiar because the 9 and the 5 are hanging on "pins".

The mind is not as sharp as it used to be, so it is driving me crazy trying to remember what it is called. I do remember the mint had a reason for doing these coins with the pins, but I don't remember what it was.

I have several of these with different dates. Some with one pin as well.

Pardon the drawing, it was the best I could do.

C'mon folks! No one has ever seen one of these before? I have several . . . and actually know why the pins are there.

No, it isn't a "damaged coin". According to "Coin World" (a magazine for coin dealers) the pins have a purpose. Anyone know what it is?

Why do I feel like I'm taking the "bait" ? Anyway.. They are called cuds. They are NOT done this way on purpose and they are not rare. It's simply an error caused by a small gouge in the stamping die. If you have proof that this was done on purpose then please stop playing silly games and prove it.
