strange lincoln what is it?

I have had this for some time & am not sure what caused the error. All of the letters looked smashed for lack of a better word, then on the reverse the lamanation goes all the way around the coin.

I'm not sure but it looks like it might have spent a good part of its life in a clothes dryer.
