I was at the local auction this week, and got a few coins, and a couple i cant find out what they are made of. I didnt have time to look close at them before bidding, so just took a chance. One is a Mexican 5 peso 1959, and on the reverse side it says 18.56g and LEY .720. Does anyone know what this means? Rings like silver, but doubt it.

The other coin is a South African 5 shilling 1958, it also has the same ring to it.

Thanks!

Without seeing the coin, I'm guessing the coin features Venustiano Carranza (commemorating the 100th year from his birth) and is 36mm in diameter. "LEY .720" means .720 fine silver.
I'm familiar with the coin reading: 18.055 G, not 18.56 G as you mentioned.
One milliion were issued.

Thanks Don, you are right, its 18.055. Is it worth anymore than the silver content? My computer is having serioius problems, so cant even do simple searches, and im not a collecter, so buying these coins was just taking a chance.
