1859 Half Dollar
I have an 1859 half dollar. It's really worn. Is it worth more as a collectable or for it's silver content? I wish I could post a picture but I don't have that ability at this time. Thanks.

Re: 1859 Half Dollar
Welcome to Treasure Net !!
Your coin currently contains about $13.50 worth of silver. The "S" mint has a premium value over the "D" and Philly mints but in a 'really worn' condition the melt value IMO and the collectable value are about the same.

Re: 1859 Half Dollar
In good condition, which is pretty well worn, an 1859 half is probably worth $35 to $40 dollars, so it would be worth more than silver content. They were minted in Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco that year but not a great deal of difference in value between them.

Re: 1859 Half Dollar
I believe it's 11.2 grams; 90% of 12.44 grams, the weight of the coin.
My previous post notes a Denver mint; not correct; New Orleans is correct as mentioned by Cutler.
