Re: Need help ID'ing coins

My guess: BAKTRIA (Bactria), Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Demetrios I or II Antiketos. Circa 200-180 BC.
Hercules standing.
The 'doohickie' jutting up from the cap visor is a big clue. That 'doohickie' represents an elephant's trunk. His cap is the elephant's skull. The visor is the elephant's tusk.
Similar to, but not identical to: http://coincircuit.com/Closed_Coin_Auction/ViewImage.php?dirname=Closed_Coin_Auction&item=7845436
Bactria was a part of the eastern periphery of the Iranian world, now part of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

Re: Need help ID'ing coins

Thanks for the info. I have some different coins that came with it with more of a native looking head on it. I may take some pics and post and see if you can help with those as well. Thanks again.

S&C:

I've seen similar coins for sale on eBay. There was a foreign seller offering very similar items.

Good luck to all,

Here's the front and back of two more of the coins. One has two heads and one has more of a native head on the front. Can't tell what the backs are. Thanks again.

Re: Need help ID'ing coins

Don, Thanks again. Now, are they worth anything? Probably not in the condition that they are in. Sounds like they are pretty common in Afghanistan. My friend picked them up in a local market.
