Yep - Chinese "cash" coins. There have been links posted within the past few months to sites that can help you identify which dynasty, etc. Lots of these were brought to North America in the 19th & 20th centuries, many as ornamentation on clothing, baskets, etc.

chinese cash coins --often carried by chinese folks "for luck" and to remind them of "home" -- many chinese laborers were brought over to america --some were used as slave laborers in the rice feilds growing rice --others later on came over to work on railroads as "coolie laborers"

these coin's typically speaking are not high dollar value coins --(not worth too much money wize)) but are often fairly old * they are like the pennys of their day in china --

being they are so low value coins trinkets were often made from them -- they were used as trade items when trading with indains * so ships often had some on them --they are often found at old wreck sites at beaches --along rail road lines -- old rice plantations --and chinese gold mining camps
