If you found it metal detecting, it is still not common. However, I have even found some in circulation about a year ago. If you got it from someone, than it is very common. For example, I have about 10-15 of those from different collections I bought. I believe the mintage is because it was the first year of mintage under the Deutsche Bundesbank.

I actually found it while walleye fishing, in a spot that has produced coins for me. It was a surface find. The ground is still frozen but, the first inch of dirt was loose. I scratched around for 2-3 minutes and found it along with an old nickel. I didn't have the MD with me but, when the ground thaws I'll be back there.
