Buffalo Gold
Just thought I'd show everybody my American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin before I take it to the bank and put it in my safe deposit box. This one definitely did not come out of the ground folks. I am a collector in addition to being a coinshooter.

Re: Buffalo Gold
BK,
Yes, it was minted at West Point. The W mint mark is next to the Indian's neck.

Re: Buffalo Gold
Backitup,
The mint has to put a nominal value on it so it can be called a coin. In this case, the nominal value is $50.00. In actuality it cost $800.00 straight from the mint.

Re: Buffalo Gold
That is one beautiful coin! I finally got to see one in person the other day at the coin shop. I was surprised at how big it was. From all the pictures I saw, I always figured it to be about the size of a Buff Nickel... boy was I shocked when it turned out to be the size of a Half Dollar.
It is a beauty!

Re: Buffalo Gold
Beautiful coin. That design is one of my favorites. I have a soft spot in my heart for the actual buffalo nickel. That gold version is a real beaut. Do you know how many they minted (will mint)?
