Looks like it could be struck through a die cap.

That's called a "pie tin" penny.

Okay, I'm kidding. I have no idea but it is unique.

Hey buddy, whatever it ends up being, it is pretty cool, and I would be excited about finding something like it... If you havent done so already, I would post this thread in the Coin Roll Hunting section, There is alot more traffic there, and Most of the people there look for this type of stuff too, so someone there will tell you exactly what you've got.

Good luck, congrats on that find.

I found a penny the other day that was a lamination error. It looked like someone peeled the center off of the penny and what was underneath looked just like your whole penny does. How much does the coin weigh? If it's light it may be a lamination error.

Looks like someone started to make a coin ring. You tap around the edge of a coin with a spoon, and it will begin to flare out like that.

Well I see what looks like a date (1951)
Whats the reverse look like? The same? Or is it readable completely?

To me it looks like 1971.
1/100 of an American dollar is a cent. It is NOT a penny. The word penny is used by several other countries, such as Great Britain, to denote their smallest denomination. In order to be numismatically correct, you must use the term cent to describe the American coin.

It reminds me of the time as kids in the 50s, we loaded the railroad track up to flatten penny's and a sweeper came by and scattered all the coins. We only found a few. I will have to detect that bit of track if I get back there one day.
