Cleaning or coating steel pennies

I've read some where that a guy told how to clean or coat steel pennies and made them like new, does anyone know of this article?

There is one way i know of and it is a plating process where lye is added and the rust is literally plated off the steel . This is the process used by museums on pieces made of steel swords guns ect. a word of warning once used on a gun it can no longer be used as a weapon; as the process weakens the steel. Though it is an excellent process with very good results.I will post a link when i find one.
